Cooking, bathing and the sauna as well as heating in the common cabin are all done with fire wood - sharpen your skills sawing and splitting fire wood...!!
There are many activities to do in Dawson City, including: Canoeing, hiking, mountain biking, gold panning, marsh mellow roasting, splitting fire wood, blue berry picking / drinking the sour toe cocktail, gambling at Daimond Tooth Gerties or better still - watching people loose money, Can Can dancers :) , watching free videos at the visitor centre, listining to recitals of poetry by Robert Service, watching the Yukon River flow by, looking for gold nuggets, picking wild roses, sitting around the fire pit, watching wild life from bears to porcupines, chasing after a squirrel that has stolen your sandwich, watch the sun set and rise within three hours, hike up the Midnight Dome, watch the Northern Light in Sept or simply do nothing and watch the Ravens chase an Eagle.

From Whitehorse by car, bike or bus. The highway ends up on Front Street. Find the easy-to-spot Visitor Centre (large log structure) on Front street. Stop for info or continue 200 meters to the Yukon River car ferry which runs 24 hours a day and every few min. - free of charge. The hostel is easy to spot from the ferry on the left bank of the river - drive up the first dirt road on your left.
By air - Take the airport shuttle to town and as above.
By car or bike from Alaska. Do not take the ferry across the river but take the last road to your right just before the ferry landing.
By canoe - Land just up stream from the river ferry - 50 meters - walk up to the hostel to get a canoe carrier to transport your canoe to the Hostel. Check in at the office first for possible help with the hostel pick-up.
