What we have to offer:

Welcome to Auberge L'Apéro, a European-style hostel in North America's most European city, Montreal. Apéro is the French word for aperitif - the beginning of a great meal or in this case - a great vacation.

Located in the heart of downtown, Auberge L'Apéro offers you safe, comfortable accommodations just a heartbeat from the action.

With 30 beds and 6 private rooms, we offer a cozy, personalized atmosphere on two floors of an old 1880s graystone with all the amenities you expect from a hostel, and many that you don't. The rooms are bright with hardwood floors and some interior brick walls that add an air of coziness to the Auberge. The second floor contains the reception area, the store, common rooms, and the laundry. The top floor is the residence that includes the dorms, bathroom facilities, and kitchen.

One of the features of Auberge L'Apéro is our beautiful terrace where you can relax and enjoy your continental breakfast in the sunshine, or come back for an apéro at the end of wonderful afternoon of sightseeing before heading out to dinner. We also feature a fully equipped kitchen, a communal TV room with free Internet and hi-speed Wi-fi access, and laundry facilities. Most importantly, there is no curfew so you will be free to explore the city and its famous (and fabulous!) nightlife to your heart's content.

What sets Auberge L'Apéro apart from other hostels is our attention to detail. We treat you as guests, not passers-through, and you will find our personalized service not unlike the service you would find in a hotel.

Auberge L'Apéro is not just a regular hostel that happens to be in Montreal, L'Apéro is like Montreal. It reflects the city's vibrant social life and European style. Don't just visit the city, be part of it at Auberge L'Apéro.

Where we are is just as important as what we are. Situated on Mackay Street, a quiet side street just steps from Saint-Catherine Street, the city's main downtown shopping district, Auberge Apéro is within walking distance of most of Montreal's attractions including Old Montreal, the museums of Fine Arts, Contemporary Art, Natural History, Architecture, and Montreal History, as well as the Bell Center - home of the hockey Canadiens and our famous Underground City. We only one block from the Metro, the city's fast, clean subway system that can whisk you anywhere that is too far to walk, from the Casino on Ile Notre Dame to the boutiques and restaurants of the famous Plateau Mont-Royal.

Montreal is a city of festivals and our location gives easy access, either on foot or by Metro, to the venues of all of our great festivals. Whether you come to our city for Jazz, Comedy, the Fringe Festival or les Nuits d'Afrique, you will be close enough to walk, but far enough away to relax and sleep in quiet and comfort.

How to get here:

When you arrive in Montreal:
If you arrive in the city at Trudeau airport, there is a bus service to downtown. Get the schedule here (www.admtl.com/passager/acces_et_stationnement/_aerobus.aspx). It will drop you at the Montréal Central Bus Station located at 505 de Maisonneuve Blvd. E. From there you can take a taxi or hop in the metro (underground train), take direction Angrignon and get out at station Guy Concordia. Once out of the metro station you will be on the corner of Maisonneuve & Guy street, from there you walk east on Maisonneuve (in the direction of the Java U coffee shop) then make a right on Mackay street.

If you arrive by train at Gare Central (Central Station), walk three blocks north on Mansfield St. from the station to Saint-Catherine Street, then turn left (west) and walk eight blocks to Mackay. Turn right and we are on the right.

If you arrive by car:
From the west: The Trans Canada Highway is called the Autoroute 401 in Québec. Take the exit for Autoroute 40 Est and move immediately to the left lane. Take the exit for Autoroute Décarie. Follow the signs for Autoroute Ville-Marie. ( this seems like a lot of highways, but the trips on each are only a few kilometers. BTW a kilometer is 0.6 miles. Take the exit for Rue Guy, and go straight three blocks to rue Saint-Catherine. Turn right and go four blocks to Mackay. Turn left, and we are on the left.
From the south: Cross the Pont Champlain and follow the signs for Centre-ville. When you get to the end of the highway continue straight up University Street for about 10 blocks until you get to rue de Maisonneuve. Turn left and go 10 blocks to Mackay St, and turn left. We are on your left.
From the east: Take Autoroute 40 west and take the exit for Autoroute Décarie. Follow the signs for Autoroute Ville-Marie. (this seems like a lot of highways, but the trips on each are only a few kilometers. BTW a kilometer is 0.6 miles. Take the exit for Rue Guy, and go straight three blocks to rue Saint-Catherine. Turn right and go four blocks to Mackay. Turn left, and we are on the left.

Montreal has an excellent public transit system that can get you anywhere in the city. The first time you go to a metro station, ask the ticket taker or our staff for the Plan de Réseau. It is the official public transit map, one of the best maps of the city, and it is free. You can download it here (www.stm.info/english/info/reseau2007.pdf), but it is too big to print. The Société de Transport de Montréal offers other good maps on their web site (www.stm.info/english/info/a-plans.htm).

The closest metro station to the Auberge is the Guy-Concordia Station (www.stm.info/english/metro/a-m34.htm#Quartier). The link on the station will give you the metro schedule and also the schedules of all the buses that serve the station, and the Auberge.
