Breaking News!

In conjunction with the 2010 Olympics, the Vancouver YWCA Hotel will be hosting an art exhibit of sport-themed paintings created by renowned local artist Ken Wesman. Called "We Rock", the exhibit runs from February 6 to 28, 2010 and paintings available for sale will feature winter sports like hockey and skiing. At the Hostel Bear, Canmore Alberta on Sunday February 7th:
Superbowl party!

Hostel Bear is holding a pool tournament, dart tournament and will be open to the public all day. There will be a raffle and door prizes to give away.

The University of Winnipeg is opening their new residence; McFeetors Hall: Great West Life Student Residence to hostelling this summer. Rates include linens, cable television, and a high security building in the heart of downtown Winnipeg. Laundry services and air conditioning are additional pluses!

Banff Y Mountain Lodge received a great independent review from Rockies.com
They also are running a Ski & Stay deal for the whole of the ski season. $99 (including all taxes) gets you a 1 day adult tri-area ski pass for use at Sunshine, Norquay or Lake Louise and night's stay at the Y. When you consider that a ski pass at the hill costs $79.95 it's a great deal!

Kejimkujik National Park in southern Nova Scotia is open all year and trails are groomed on the weekends. There is about three feet of packed trails. Caledonia Country Hostel has a great package deal on right now: two nights accommodation, cross country skis, boots, poles, plus vegetarian or regular chili and rolls for $90.00. Alternatively there is 10% off the 2nd night's stay and 20% off third night.

In Whitehorse Yukon, book your reservations early at the Beez Kneez Bakpakers. The annual Yukon Quest starts in Fairbanks Alaska on February 6th and finishes in Whitehorse about 10-12 days later. Come up and meet the successful participants of the toughest Dog sled race in the world, and hear their tales of the trail!

Also Double your fun by coming up to Whitehorse the last 2 weeks of February. The Sourdough Rendevous Winter Carnival, Feb 25-28 and the super fun 3 day Frostbite Music Festival Feb 19th - 21st are back to back this year. In between these events each night the sky is clear all eyes are looking North for the Aurora to appear. All this and more is waiting for your North of 60.
Hostel of the Week: Backpackers International Hostel, Niagara Falls

Operated by a warm and friendly Francophone family, this elegant Victorian home turned youth hostel is only 5 minutes walk to the bus depot and is open 24-7. Dorm rates are $25.00 per night. Private rooms are also available. Facilities include a fully equipped kitchen and a free light breakfast.

The hostel is only one block to the Niagara River and Parkway, and 15-20 minute walk to Falls and attractions. It is also close to the Greyhound and train stations.
